Special Education
The ENACT method addresses students' particular needs in an environment that is safe and student-centered. Our workshops are custom designed utilizing our pre-assessment protocol, including meetings and observations, allowing us to respond to the specific developmental requirements of each group of students and our curriculum is differentiated accordingly.
Why is the ENACT program appropriate for students with special needs?
- Our programs are customized.
- We create a safe environment.
- We work developmentally.
- We engage students physically.
- We promote emotional regulation.
- We help students feel empowered.
All ENACT workshops begin with interactive warm-up activities designed to assess and build group dynamics. Next we address specific issues through the use of our reflective scene work. A discussion of the scene naturally guides the group to recognize their own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Students are encouraged to suggest different choices for the characters and often get on their feet and replay the scenes themselves, allowing for an even more intimate understanding of the characters’ actions.
Ways in which our method teaches social and emotional skills:
- Theatre games allow for the development of interpersonal and communication skills.
- Appropriately distanced scene work unearths core feelings in the group.
- Workshops create empathy by mirroring students’ needs in reflective scene work.
- Students have the opportunity to practice peaceful solutions to conflict.
- Theatre activities and techniques promote emotional regulation.
All ENACT workshops are led by two highly trained ENACT teaching artists who have extensive experience working with youth. They are creative, inspiring role models who are thoroughly trained in the ENACT methodology and are supervised and mentored by drama therapists and clinical social workers.
