Parent/Family Workshops
Recognizing the importance of healthy family relationships to a student's ability to succeed in school, ENACT Parent/Family Workshops seek to give families the tools they need to be full partners in the education of their children, and to help them be responsible community members. Utilizing ENACT's signature role-play techniques and theatre games, the workshops recreate parent/ child or parent/teacher conflict. The Teaching Artists then lead the group in a “processing” of the scene, where participants give options on different ways the conflict can be resolved.
Betty Graham, a veteran member of the ENACT teaching staff who now directs the parent/family workshops describes the program as follows:
“ENACT forms a unit with parents and family. We combine drama scenes with humor to build a trust bond to help parents and students with inner healing and conflict resolution. The scene work opens the parents up. Once you form a trust bond with people, you make them believe they are capable of being a responsible influence in their child’s life. Parent and Family workshops are about building personal relationships. It’s not just about being a parent, it’s about experiencing and getting inside the questions and making the connection by becoming a little more personal and open.”
