Getting Jazzed About School Mental Health

ENACT Founder Diana Feldman, Research Director Emilie Ward and School Site Director Cristina Hernandez headed down to the Big Easy over the weekend to address the topic of creating safe classrooms. Speaking to a packed audience of mental health professionals, guidance counselors and teachers from across the country who attended the 20th Annual Conference on Advancing School Mental Health in New OrleansNOLA, Diana and the team demonstrated ENACT’s developmental application of theater games and its signature role play and facilitation techniques. Sharing the success of ENACT’s successful dropout prevention model, the team discussed challenges to program implementation along with strategies to overcome them, along with the indicators for assessing collaboration, classroom practice and student outcomes that were generated during ENACT’s Ford Foundation funded evaluation.

The conference, subtitled “Getting Jazzed About School Mental Health,” was sponsored by the School for Mental Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in partnership with the National Community of Practice on Collaborative School Behavioral Health.
