Approximately 50 NYC public school students took the stage alongside professional actors to present “SHOW UP! 2014,” the culminating event for ENACT’s Dropout Prevention Program on May 15, at the High School of Hospitality Management in Manhattan. The event was introduced by Dr. Charlotte Frank, Senior Advisor of Research and Development for McGraw-Hill Education. This year, for the first time, “SHOW UP!” was followed by an after-party at a nearby venue to raise funds for ENACT programs.
ENACT’s seventh annual evening of original theatre depicted obstacles that often deter youth from attending school, including bullying and violence, as well as the hope and solutions they have learned through ENACT workshops. At “SHOW UP!” students use their powers of expression to show families, peers, and school staff how ENACT has helped them focus on success in school and the community.
We thank our partners in the New York City Council, the United Way, the New York City Department of Education, and the Fund for the City of New York for making these programs possible. We also thank our students and staff for their dedication all year.
